Domain Name Registration

It maybe the first thing or the last thing you purchase for your website, whichever way you do it, you'll need one.

A domain name is a unique name that identifies a website on the internet. Its an alpha-numeric address that acts as a signpost to allow visitors to find your website. A domain name is also called a URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

We buy all our domain names through www.123-reg.co.uk. We've used many different registrars over the years, but we've found that 123-reg are among the cheapest and, more importantly, provide all of the controls that you need to effectively manage a domain name.

You can register your domain name for yourself - its very quick and simple to do. Use our 123-reg domain name search box further down the page to begin.

If you'd like us to register a domain name on your behalf, we be happy to do so at cost plus a small handling fee, although we recommend to all our clients that they open up a free 123-reg account so we can transfer the domain name into your control once its all set up.

Domain name registration tips

We've come across all sorts of problems with domain name registrations. Here's a handful of tips on domain name registration to help you avoid some of them:

  • If you're the boss - take charge and register the domain name yourself. If you leave it all to a member of staff you may have problems administering changes to your domain name in the future if they've left and not passed on all the details.
  • When you open and account with a registrar, such as 123-reg, you'll receive an email with all your login information for your account. Make sure you keep it! Also make a printed copy and file it. You'll need it if you ever need to alter your domain name settings in the future.
  • Make sure that the email address you provide when you register your domain name is one that you plan to keep for a long, long time. If you need to transfer ownership of your domain or transfer control to another registrar, the authorisation will go to that email address. If the mailbox doesn't exist - it will be much more difficult and time consuming to accomplish.
  • Set up auto-renewal. You'll need to renew your domain name every couple of years or so. If you forget to do this, you might lose it forever, or be held to ransom by someone who picked it up after it expired. Ensure that your domain names will renew automatically.
